Safeguarding our Children
If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child at St Paul of the Cross Catholic Primary School, please do not hesitate to immediately contact a member of our Safeguarding Team. At St Paul of the Cross safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children is everyone's responsibility.
Online safety
The children are taught how to remain safe online as part of their Computing, and wider learning. It is important that we work in partnership with parents to provide children with a consistent message about staying safe online. Below is some information regarding e-safety, but further information is available in our "Online Safety" tab.
Protecting children from extremism and radicalisation
Our duty as a school, within the Government’s PREVENT agenda is to:
- Risk assess, and reduce or manage any risks to the children
- Work in partnership
- Train staff in order to identify children at risk of radicalisation or explosure to extremism
- Ensure IT policies are current in relation to protecting children from extremism and radicalisation
- Give children the values and skills to be resilient to extremism and radicalisation
Operation Encompass
In conjunction with Cheshire Police, St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Primary School is involved in an initiative called Operation Encompass. The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in, heard or witnessed a domestic abuse incident. Following such an incident, children will often arrive at school distressed, upset, worried and unprepared. Operation Encompass aims to ensure that appropriate school staff (called Key Adults) are made aware early enough to support children and young people in a way that means they feel safe and included.
At St. Paul of the Cross our Key Adults are:
Mrs Clare Abram - Head Teacher & Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Mrs Louise Newton - Deputy Head Teacher and Deputy DSL
This is a valuable initiative that means we can continue to support and help children and families within our school community when they need it the most.
Early Help Support Team
In Warrington, we know that children, young people and their families have different types of needs and sometimes they may require extra support. One way this extra support can be provided is through an Early Help Assessment.
An Early Help Assessment can be completed by any professional, from any service, who is working with a child, young person or family.
The Early Help Support Team's role is to provide information, guidance and support to professionals who are working children, young people and their families.
An Early Help Assessment benefits a child, young person or family because it:
- helps to identify needs at an early stage;
- is strengths- and evidence-based;
- is personalised and;
- is multi-agency in its approach.
An Early Help Review/Closure Plan complements the assessment by ensuring the correct level of support is provided for an individual/family at the right time. This allows for service provision to be regularly reviewed to ensure it continues to meet need and prevents needs escalating.
